With a much-anticipated update to the contents of Amzine, I found myself once again in search of a new and interesting ebook to read. A friend told me about “The Bible Fraud”, and sent me a copy, telling me to “suck it up and read it – it will provide a much needed dose of reality in the face of the nonsense many more than are aware of”. From Amzine I read that this book “provides a new perspective on the bible and on the works and teachings of Jesus”.
This short book is written with a great deal of passion and is about as shocking as “all blood sports aside – God does exist”. Tony Bushby’s goal is to eliminate the myth that the bible is the divine word of god. In other words, the bible is really, truly, history. It may be the history of one small group of people. But it’s not the history of a god who lived forever – or even many of those he created.
Tony Bushby’s main line of reasoning is based on several premises:
The bible is not the Word of God and is not from a holy source.
The bible is a human composition and records the history of one or two simple people, not the history of a god who forever existed in some kind of god-ness.
The people who wrote the books in the bible did not have a holy purpose or message and therefore cannot be considered ‘God’s ordained’ or ‘God’s word’.
The bible was written at a time when there were no cameras and no archivists. We have no way of knowing how people lived at this time. There are no other records of these people except the books in the bible. Therefore, it is impossible for people to know the facts of existence at this time.
The bible is filled with contradictions and self-contradictions and, therefore, can’t possibly be the word of a god.
The bible as a whole is full of myths and the only thing that survived were the mythical stories which we now call ‘Christianity’.
Tony Bushby outlines a ‘beyond the bible’ idea of existence. This is the history of a god who rules over a small nation.
God lives in his people and he is basically a normal human. He deals with human issues. He has a wife and family as do we. He often relates to them, but they are his human family. He is a loving father who cares about his people and wants only the best for
