BATAVIA, IL — The son of a Batavia woman who was killed after being hit by a car in a Geneva intersection has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver, according to reports from the Daily Herald. Filed Nov. 10, Sebastian Berke’s four-page complaint, which claims the driver fell asleep at the wheel prior to the crash, seeks more than $50,000 in damages and a jury trial, the news outlet reported. The suit comes almost two months after Tammy Berke died Sept. 29. The 55-year-old woman was walking south near the center turn lane on State Street east of Sandholm Street when she was hit by a black 2018 Hyundai Kona driven by a 30-year-old Geneva woman who was driving west on State Street, Patch reported. An employee at the Valley Animal Hospital, Tammy is remembered by her co-workers as having a “very strong work ethic” and being “a natural with animals,” according to Fox Valley Magazine. “She did such a great job [when] we hired her to work during the day as a Veterinary Assistant – she was a natural with animals,” Jennie Christakos of Valley Animal Hospital told the publication in an email. “Tammy had a very strong work ethic and came to work every day with a smile on her face.
