Little Mix was the first girl group to perform on The X Factor. After Jason Castro announced his decision to send home boyband Bourndon was runner-up. Little Mix quickly followed, being both eliminated last and both leaving the competition with an overall 2–1 record over Bourndon. Their first performance saw them make it to the live finals, having being placed in the top three. They performed a cover of Avicii’s Wake Up as well as Skunk Anansie’s cover of David Guetta and Sia’s The Greatest on their first performance at Wembley Arena. Little Mix’s first single was written by the band and produced by Benny Blanco, unlike their other singles which were both produced by Dr Luke. On the second week, the group received a mixed reaction from the public, who were generally not pleased with their performance. The previous week, they had top four in the public vote and had generally received more positive feedback. During the judges’ vote they received four votes and were eliminated.
Little Mix entered The X Factor on 1 November 2011. They also starred in the second series of the Channel 4 drama Skins and appeared in the third series of Gogglebox. Lillie made her acting debut in an episode of the BBC childrens show One Tree Hill. Also, according to their official website, Little Mix has their own perfume titled Little Mix Cologne. Their first single, Blood, Sweat & Tears, was released in February 2011, but did not manage to be a success and peaked at number 44 in the UK Singles Chart. After the release of Blood, Sweat & Tears, the band announced that they would write and produce their own debut album, even though they were already signed with Syco Music. Therefore, the band released the album DNA in October 2011 with their single Wings featuring Tinchy Stryder. This single was a huge success worldwide and is currently their biggest selling single in the UK and Ireland and entered the UK Singles Chart at number one. They also found moderate success in the US, reaching number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012.  The next single, Wings, was also a huge success, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100, number one on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, and number 19 on the UK Singles Chart.  On their third single, Be Mine, Little Mix performed an up-tempo dance number, which was covered by the producers of The X Factor in a mash-up titled’No More Music ‘. This song is a tribute to the Eurovision Song Contest, in which the whole competition is held. The song became the third most downloaded single on iTunes in the European Union in 2012. 
Following the release of the group’s self-titled debut album in August 2011, the members were featured in several media articles and interviews to promote their new album. After the release of their first album, the group was featured in some more media articles and interviews. They also recorded a song with Akon called Let’s Go to the Disco. They performed the song on The X Factor UK in November 2011 and X Factor USA in February 2012. The same month, Little Mix featured in a short promotional video for Kia’s Carpool Karaoke.  In November 2011, Little Mix also performed alongside Nicki Minaj at the charity event The Compassionate Release Concert. The concert was held to benefit victims of the Pakistan earthquake.  In February 2012, the group were the opening act for Girls Aloud’s arena tour  and also appeared on Girls Aloud’s single of the same name. In July 2012, Little Mix also performed a cover of Tegan and Sara’s Heartthrob on the prime-time television show The X Factor. 
In August 2012, the group collaborated with British producer and DJ James Sanders to create a 4-minute mash-up of their song That’s My Girl and The Drifters’ Here I’ll Stay. The track was later included on the official soundtrack for the film A Place Called Today, in which all four members of the group feature in minor roles.  In October 2012, the group appeared on Wet ‘n Wild’s Halloween Spooktacular Halloween Promo Party show. In November 2012, Little Mix performed at the first-ever BRIT Awards show’s charity concert The BRITs Now: We Are One alongside Girls Aloud, McFly, Take That, The Saturdays, The Vamps and Mo Tin. On 25 November 2012, Little Mix were the opening act for The Wanted’s One Love Manchester benefit concert. On the same day, the group gave their first solo performance after the release of their debut album. It was released in December 2012 and was performed in its entirety at the show. Little Mix were also an ambassador for the Special Olympics and featured in a TV advertisement to raise funds for the charity.  In 2013, Little Mix began releasing new music through their fan club site, before signing a worldwide record deal with Syco in March 2013. In September 2013, Rowland left the group, with the other members accepting the departure and not performing as Little Mix without her. She was replaced by Jesy Nelson, formerly of group Everything Everything.
